Petrosains Science Festival 2016 - The Utility Value of Mathematics Education at the Schools Level
The purpose of learning mathematics has traditionally been ingrained in its economic value particularly for the field of science, technology and commerce. Many studies and common wisdom will indicate that there is a correlation between success in mathematics and the future employability and remuneration.
Recently, there has been a worrying trend, mathematical knowledge is given priority over mathematical thinking, mathematical pedagogy and numerical literacy. This trend will produce students who have mastered the art of test taking but might fail to appreciate and benefit for an authentic mathematics education.
